A “UNITY MOMENT” BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE UNIFIED TEACHERS PARTY.

Unity’s candidate (above) for the upcoming 2007 election is similar to the sitting ruler: both display a rampant disregard of democracy, and believe that preserving the absolute Unity monarchy is more important than fair and adequate representation for those that pay their dues.

The Unity monarchy is built on the cornerstone of self perpetuation. The business of Unity is the preservation of the caste system that they have created, and maintain, in the United Federation of Teachers. The business of the UFT is the UFT.

The monarchy is built on a bedrock composed of many things: retirees, preventing reform information from reaching others, the single-minded subservience to Unity with absolute disregard to issue or problem, the emergency appointment of District Representatives and the cessation of their election, and so on. In short, the party comes first; the rank and file are far, far behind. Who else could offer a second rate contract to those that they are paid to represent, tell them that it’s the best they could do and they’ve got to accept it, and then, finally, give themselves a raise for their effort?

Reform is the UTP issue. Unity is the greedy myopic monster that feasts at the table and leaves scraps for those that work in the classrooms and in the schools. Instead of embracing reform and growing stronger, Unity keeps everything for itself. If they fought the Bloomberg-Klein axis with as much determination as they do reform, we would all be better off.

I hope the message is spreading. Being exposed for what they really are is Unity's worst fear. They do everything in their power to conceal information, and divert attention from their actions. Its time the light of truth is shinned on this rats nest. Only the devious and corrupt fear daylight.

My dear royal UFT highnesses,

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. And who is ringing that bell thruout the Kingdom of the Five Boroughs? The ever-strengthening forces for reform: those poor, downtrodden masses who heroically teach in our public schools.

Politcs, politics, politics. Where is the substance?

Asking for a more democratic union IS the substance. I can not understand how anyone who reads this web site can miss that. Pointing out what has to be improved in our union is important because a good number of teachers are not aware of how the union operates.
In my school this site has become required reading
it is both informational and entertaining.

Was it substance or politics when the Unity heavy DA voted down Nick Licari's proposal to effectively bolster UFT activism? What is the union's activisim plan? The clock is ticking...

My Chapter Leader told us about this site and he wasn't kidding - this stuff is for REAL. I don't know if I agree with everything I've read here but I do agree with much of it. Keep up the fight- you have more supporters than you're aware of.

Although I am not a proponent of playing with matches in the forest, it is true that fire can be a healthy thing for the forest. When old growth burns down almost immediately new shoots appear, green and lively, from the ashes. This new growth reinvigorates the forest. In a similar fashion, reform, such as the UTP is calling for, can be a reinvigorating and healthy thing for our union.

This web site presents a dishonest view of our union. There are many hard working people down at 52 Broadway who spend every waking moment
trying to make their own lives better. They've given themselves a raise in hopes of cheering themselves
up after having to secure their members a bad contract. Its understandable. Personally, I love 6R and with coverage's its now possible to work up to six in a row! WoooHOOO! I'm Mr. Happy now! Kiss 25/55 goodbye, our brilliant Governor said "its outside the realm of possibility! Were Ronda and Unity surprised? Nahh-they knew it was all just a pipe dream!
Not only won't we get 25/55 but they are looking to LOWER future pension pay-outs and UP health costs!!! Again, WoooHOOO! It just keeps getting better and better! If things keep up like this we may be able to swing a deal to work for free right up until we drop dead-which is good because we'll never be able to retire! I can only wish for the retirement age to be raised to 75 with a required 50 years of service for a set retirement rate of $6,500 a year! Alas, that will never happen because the union of "professionals" needs all those retired
votes.
True hatred is a wonder to behold.

I was always a moderate in my views on union issues and believed we (teachers) should do anything possible to avoid a strike. I was always a supporter of the union but I did find myself on the fence with this new contract and listened to the advice of the District Representative who visited my school. I now see that there was much he neglected to tell us about the contract. I believe his omissions were a conscious attempt to mislead us into voting in a way that was best for the union but not for the members. The unions failure to negotiate an expectable contract and the underhanded way they railroaded their members prompted myself and many of my colleagues to begin to look for outside sources of information.
Sites like yours and others provide a valuable service to union members by exposing the hypocrisy and lack of democracy that exists in our union.

I recommend that readers go to msfrizzle.blogspot.com and read
the comments posted for the blog article "Pay Attention,UFT". It's a really good
debate featuring some of our favorite
people such as NYC Educator, Norm Scott,
and James Eterno. Besides being interesting and
informative it is also highly hilarious.
The debate also includes the latest single from
Leo Casey and His Master o' Spin.
It's go no beat but we all have to dance to it anyway, at least for the time being.
