Attack of the Clones; or, say NO to New Action

A few years ago, it seemed that New Action was the only opposition caucus to Unity's stranglehold over the UFT. But fifteen years of attrition has resulted in New Action being assimilated into the gluttonous Unity caucus. Yet even today, New Action is still running their people for at-large positions, as well as Executive Board openings. But 8 of their candidates are also on the running on the Unity slate, with 5 guaranteed victory because they are running at-large, where all the Unity retirees get to vote. But it is the New Action high school Executive Board candidates running under Unity that are the ones to watch. Their sole purpose is to oust Kaufman and Eterno, and replace them with New Action suck-ups.

How can this be? How can you run on the slate of the very people that you oppose? Well, perhaps Randi reaches out to you and encourages you to run as an opposition, even though you are not. That would surely be better than the real forces of opposition: UTP/ICE/TJC. Maybe Unity helps you design your message and gives you encouragement in a variety of ways. Perhaps you get a job at UFT headquarters, right along side the people that you would fight against before, and that have nothing but loathing for you now, as then. Maybe Unity can even pay your retirees, along with Unity people, to go to schools to spread the Unity-New Action message.

They are trying to send a message of confusion to the members that may think that New Action is a legitimate opposition. But an opposition usually opposes. New Action, though, holds its caucus meetings at UFT headquarters. They are on the Unity payroll.

Perhaps, like Randi, they are not what they seem.

Thank you for this post. New Action is running as a phony opposition. They endorsed Randi and now they have jobs with the Union. What a joke.

New Action is running their own slate. They are endorsing Randi and Randi is endorsing some of their executive board candidates. It's an attempt to confuse everyone to think that they are still oppostion. Don't buy it and vote for ICE-TJC.

This is just another example of the underhanded tactics the Unity caucus employes to retain their power. Confuse, lie and slander anyone who questions their authority. Set up an empty suit "opposition" to give the appearance of democratic elections.
All while acting more as a branch of the mayors office and the DOE than as representatives of the teachers who pay their salaries.
Thanks for exposing more of the poison that is destroying our union.

I get it. I have to sell my soul, votes, common sense, and admit that "Resistance is Futile". Then I would be able to get a part time job with the Union. It ain't worth it.

Surprise, another valid anti-Unity observation. While other groups may pontificate a little too much this site continues it's stripped down brass knuckle approach to union reform. Keep it up!

Who the hell is Kit?

Kit Wainer is running for UFT President on the ICE-TJC slate. He is the only opposition candidate we know of who is running in the election.

Let's make it simple. There are two entities running in the spring and they are Unity/New Action and ICE/TJC. There are actually three entities running if you count Norm. I know technically Norm isn't running for anything but he'll be there. He's always there.
Personally, I would like to see a Unity/New Action/Norm free UFT in '07- but I guess that will never happen.
Why? Because both Unity and Norm are omnipresent like God.

Everyone must spread the message that New Action is a fraud. Another example of the devious manipulative tactics Unity uses to maintain its stranglehold on our union. Its time to break up the Unity monopoly. Vote ICE/TJC if you are sick of the weakness and corruption that have infected our union.

This is a very, very important message.

In speaking to my colleagues, I find most of them are very much unaware of this. I think I voted for New Action last time, and only through writing my blog did I come to find out what it now is.

New Action is the lowest of the low, even worse than the Liberal Party was when Ed Koch correctly referred to it as "slime."

I'm not Unity's staunchest defender, but at least Unity is Unity.

New Action needs to go and so does Unity.

We need to expose New Actions for what they are... an extention of Unity.

We need everyone who is unhappy with the direction of our union to do SOMETHING to change it. Stuff mailboxes with opposition literature, tell your colleagues about opposition websites, create your own flyers, tell people about the New Action fraud and the need to vote for the ICE/TJC slate. Don't read this blog and proceed to do nothing. Go do SOMETHING... anything you can to do help will benefit us all.

I stuffed mailboxes with ICE literature today. Erevyone should do it.

If you don't like the literature from ICE or TJC make up your own or cut and paste the stuff you like and embellish. What about schools near where you live? Stuff those boxes. Onto the barricades. Defeat the forces of evil.

You have the right to distribute caucus literature. Take advantage of it.

No, it's Unity's motto. The UTP is fighting for truth, justice and the American way. They are a beacon of light in a world of darkness and corruption, fighting a holy war against the forces of greed and corruption. The fact that you can't see that shows how perverted your thinking has become. Liars always fear the truth.
